Wednesday 18th of April, 2018. London. The entrance to the Canadian High Commission in Trafalgar Square has been blocked by climate campaigners who’ve built a huge oil pipeline around the building. The protest comes as Canadian PM Justin Trudeau touches down in London for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.
The pipeline is branded ‘Crudeau Oil’. Climbers have also scaled two entrance pillars to drop banners rebranding the building ‘Crudeau Oil HQ’.
The blockade is a protest against the Trudeau government’s plans to build a huge oil pipeline from the Alberta tar sands across indigenous lands to ports in British Columbia. The massive protest pipeline was installed at 6.30am this morning by 30 Greenpeace volunteers and runs from the main entrance of Canada House to the consular entrance on Cockspur Street.
THE WORLD NEEDS TO TRANSITION AWAY FROM PETROLEUM IMMEDIATELY WITH A MORATORIUM ON ALL NEW OIL DEVELOPMENTS AND A SHIFT TO A GREEN NEW DEAL. IT IS TIME TO PUT HUMAN LIFE AND MOTHER EARTH OVER MONEY AND STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF LIFE AND EARTH, PARTICULARLY WHILE WE ARE N A CLIMATE CRISIS. RESPECTING ALL LIFE IS ESSENTIAL TO A SUCCESSFUL COUNTRY. JUSTICE, DIGNITY AND RESPECT ARE WHAT GIVE VALUE TO A NATION. CONSCIOUSNESS BRINGS CLARITY WHICH BRINGS UNDERSTANDING AND DECISIONS THAT ARE INTELLIGENT IN MOVING A COUNTRY FORWARD IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY THAT BENEFITS EARTH AND HUMANITY. WE ARE IN THE END TIMES OF PETROLEUM AND FUTHER GREED AND DELAY WILL ONLY LEAVE MORE DESTRUCTION AND PROBLEMS FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS. THIS IS NOT FAIR.
