OUR NATIVE INDIGENOUS ELDERS GAINED GREAT WISDOM LIVING ON TURTLE ISLAND, NOW CALLED AMERICA. THE OLDER THE CULTURE THE MORE WISDOM THERE IS TO BE PASSED DOWN THE GENERATIONS. TURTLE ISLAND WAS RENAMED AMERICA AFTER MANY NEW IMMIGRANTS ARRIVED FROM EUROPE A LITTLE OVER 200 YEARS AGO. The naming of the Americas, or America, occurred shortly after Christopher Columbus’ voyage to the Americas in 1492. It is generally accepted that the name derives from Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer, who explored the new continents in the following years. NATIVE INDIANS LIVED ON TURTLE ISLAND SINCE THE PALEOINDIAN PERIOD WHICH WAS 12,000 YEARS BEFORE CHRIST. The Paleoindian Period refers to a time approximately 14,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age when humans first appeared in the archeological record in North America. One of the original groups to enter what is now Canada and the United States was the Clovis culture. The culture is named for artifacts found near Clovis, New Mexico, where the first evidence of this tool complex was excavated in 1932. Earlier evidence included a mammoth skeleton with a spear-point in its ribs, found by a cowboy in 1926 near Folsom, New Mexico. Clovis sites have since been identified throughout all of the contiguous United States, as well as Mexico and Central America.

AFTER THE ARRIVAL OF THE IMMIGRANT PIONEERS 200 YEARS AGO NATIVE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE WERE REDUCED FROM APPROXIMATELY 60 MILLION TO JUST 800,000. THE INDIGENOUS CULTURE WAS WIPED OUT BY THE SPREAD OF DISEASE BROUGHT BY THE EUROPEANS AND FROM BEING SLAUGHTERED BY IMMIGRANTS WITH GUNS WHEN THE INDIGENOUS HAD ONLY BOWS AND ARROWS. NATIVE AMERICANS DID NOT BELIEVE IN HARMING LIFE NOR THE EARTH NOR THE HISTORY OF MAN. THEY WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAKE CARE OF THE LAND BY THE LAW OF GREAT SPIRIT WHICH THEY LEARNED TO RESPECT THROUGH GENERATIONS LIVING ON EARTH FOR 14,000 YEARS. THEIR WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION WAS PRECIOUS AND LEARNED OVER MANY, MANY LIFETIMES.

THE HOPI TRIBE WAS DISPLACED TO THE HOPI RESERVATION IN 1892 UNTIL THE US GOVERNMENT DECIDED THEY WANTED ACCESS TO THE COAL THERE AND ALLOWED CORPORATE MINING OF THE LAND WITHOUT CONSIDERATION FOR THE HOPI. THEIR SACRED LAND WAS POLLUTED AND THE PRISTINE AQUIFERS WERE POISONED AND DRAINED BY THE PEABODY COAL COMPANY WHO USED THE PURE WATER AQUIFERS TO TRANSPORT THE COAL HUNDREDS OF MILES OFF THE RESERVATION. MANY HOPI WERE RUN OFF THEIR LAND AND LOST THEIR ABILITY TO SURVIVE WITHOUT WATER. SOME WERE MURDERED. PEABODY STILL MINES COAL ON THE HOPI RESERVATION TODAY.

http://www.newmexicopbs.org – Handed down from ancient times, the Hopi Prophesy delineates the path of peace, and harmony with nature. Where we have deviated from that path, the prophecy has correctly predicted the results. Which path lies before us? What does the future hold? Hear a message of tribal elders for our modern world.

“Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.” – Cree Indian Prophecy

NARRATED BY: Floyd Red Crow Westerman

IT IS VERY SHOCKING AND SAD THAT THE OLDEST RACE ON EARTH THAT LIVED FOR 14,000 YEARS ON THE CONTINENT OF TURTLE ISLAND WAS WIPED OUT IN JUST A FEW HUNDRED YEARS BY VISITORS TO THEIR LAND. IT IS INDEED THE MOST MASSIVE, EXTREME AND SADDEST GENOCIDE THAT EVER OCCURRED IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND. NOW WE ARE WITNESSING THE EXTINCTION OF THOUSANDS OF SPECIES A DAY AS UNCONSCIOUS LEADERS RACE TOWARD MAKING HUMANS EXTINCT AS WELL WITH THEIR NEVER ENDING GAME OF WAR AND NOW SPACE WARS WHICH IS THREATENING TO END LIFE ON EARTH FOR HUMANITY IF MAN DOES NOT DRASTICALLY CHANGE HIS WAYS NOW.

IF THE ORIGINAL IMMIGRANTS TO TURTLE ISLAND WERE MORE EDUCATED AND NOT DRIVEN BY THE GREED OF THE GOLD AND LAND RUSH THEN THEY COULD HAVE LEARNED THE BEAUTIFUL CULTURE AND WAYS OF THE GENEROUS INDIGENOUS TRIBES. HAD THEY RESPECTED THE INDIGENOUS TRIBES THEY COULD HAVE KNOWN THE BEAUTY OF LIVING IN FREEDOM WITH LOVE FOR THE EARTH AND ALL LIFE AND LIVED PEACEFULLY, WITH GRATITUDE FOR FINDING HEAVEN ON EARTH. THE INDIGENOUS HAD NO MONEY, NO HOSPITALS NOR STORES NOR PERMANENT HOUSES. THEY WERE NOMADS AND TRAVELLED ACCORDING TO THE SEASONS, LIVING IN HARMONY WITH EARTH. THEY KNEW WHICH HERBS HEALED WHAT AILMENTS AND THEY HUNTED AND GATHERED THEIR FOOD DAILY. THEY CLAIMED NOT OWNERSHIP OVER ANY LAND AND LIVED IN HARMONY WITH OTHER TRIBES. A FEW IMMIGRANTS WHO WERE ENAMOURED BY THE NATIVE CULTURE AND WHO WANTED TO PROTECT THEM DID JOIN THE TRIBES WHEN A WHITE MAN PROVED HIMSELF WORTHY AND THE CHIEFS ALLOWED IT.

THERE ARE ONLY A FEW ELDERS LEFT STILL LIVING THAT CARRY THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BEAUTIFUL CULTURE AND TRADITIONAL WAYS OF THE INDIGENOUS TRIBES. MANY OF THE INDIGENOUS TRIBAL PEOPLE LEFT ARE STRUGGLING LIVING ON RESERVATIONS WITHOUT ELECTRICITY AND WATER. THEIR LANDS HAVE BEEN HISTORICALLY USED FOR EXPLOITATION OF URANIUM AND COAL AND HENCE LEFT THEIR WATERS AND LAND POISONED. MANY INDIGENOUS INDIANS HAVE BEEN USED TO DO HAZARDOUS AND TOXIC LABOUR FOR LITTLE PAY WHICH HAS RESULTED ILLNESS. DRUGS AND ALCOHOL INTRODUCED TO THE TRIBES HAS ALSO REAKED HAVOC ON THE INDIGENOUS YOUTH BECAUSE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE HAVE LITTLE TOLERANCE FOR ALCOHOL AND DRUGS SINCE IT IS FOREIGN TO THEIR DNA AND CULTURE. SOME TRIBES ARE TRYING TO RECOVER THEIR MEANINGFUL TRADITIONAL WAYS AND ARE TEACHING YOUTH ABOUT THE CEREMONIES AND WAYS OF LIFE OF THEIR ANCESTORS.
